                        <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><span>A few years ago, shortly after a national election, I read a devotional on Jeremiah chapter 7.</span><span class="Apple-converted-space">  </span><span>If you read the passage, it becomes clear that the biblical kingdom of Judah had come to think of their society as above reproach; after all they were God’s chosen people.</span><span class="Apple-converted-space">  </span><span>They entered into worship of God with an unfettered conscience (a conscience lacking self-control) and an inflated view of their own righteousness.</span><span class="Apple-converted-space">  </span><span>They were blind to their sin and blind to the impact of those sins on their society.</span><span class="Apple-converted-space">  </span><span>Through the prophet Jeremiah, God takes them to task, revealing their true behavior and sinful lifestyle.</span></p>
